Tips : Starting mysqld service on Mandriva Linux Free 2009.0

When you try to starting Service mysqld on Mandriva Linux Free 2009.0, the service coldn't start
with the following error message:

> ERROR: hostname cannot be localhost, mysql_install_db is quite unstable.

This is bug on Mandriva Linux Free 2009.0

To correct this error you must change hostname with something else except 'localhost'.

Go to MCC then 'Network & Internet' --> 'Hosts definitions' then change hostname and aliases




Restart the service.

Tips : Install Mandriva Linux 2008.1 Free Edition On Acer Aspire 4520 Notebook

Mandriva is beautiful Linux Desktop. When I install this Linux on Acer Aspire 4520 there is not run correctly.

After install on the notebook, there go to Terminal. No KDE will appear. Only command prompt :(.
This happen because X windows detect invalid driver for this Notebook.


To correct this error, you must edit X window configuration.

1.From terminal after your boot.
Login as root.
# su
Type your root password.
2.Edit xorg.conf using vi.
# vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
3.locate for Section “Device”
change option Driver “nv” to Driver “vesa”
4.Save the file.
5.Restart your Notebook.

Now you can running Mandriva. You can also setting Network using wireless or wired. This is the first linux where I can run wireless Network with ndiswrapper.

On on October 9th, 2007 Mandriva Linux 2008 has been released. With many improvement like :
1. Using GNOME 2.20
2. KDE 3.5.7
3. XFCE 4.4.1
4. Kernel 2.6.22
5. Re-merge between the Compiz and Beryl 3D desktop technologies
6. and more.

Mandriva linux is Distro with beautiful Front end. This distro can be client for replacing our old Microsoft Windows.
